Ectopic respiratory mucosa in the rectum: the second documented case with discussion of its histogenesis.

چکیده
Histopathological study of the endoscopically resected specimen revealed the presence of a unilocular cystic lesion under the rectal mucosa (Figure 1A). Smooth muscle bundles were recognized around the entire cyst (Figure 1A), and no connection with surface rectal mucosa was noted. The cyst wall was covered by pseudostratified ciliated epithelium (Figure 1B), and accumulation of neutrophils was observed within the cyst. The ciliated epithelium was without atypia, and no mitotic figures were observed. A few goblet cells were present. Mild lymphocytic infiltration and lymphoid follicle formation were also observed around the cyst (Figure 1A). No gastric, salivary, pancreatic, endometrial, and seromucinous gland tissues were present.

Ectopic gastric mucosa of the common bile duct.
The finding of ectopic gastric mucosa is well documented throughout the gastrointestinal tract from the tongue to the rectum. Its presence within the gallbladder and the biliary tree is extremely rare and most probably secondary to an aberrant histogenesis. This brief report presents the second reported case of heterotopic gastric tissue within the common bile duct. A literature review, brief o...
متن کاملIntestinal duplication with ectopic gastric mucosa diagnosed by Meckel's diverticulum scan
Gastrointestinal duplications are rare congenital malformations and they may vary greatly in presentation, size, location and symptoms. The presence of ectopic gastric mucosa (EGM) in them is not common and they are difficult to diagnose prior to surgery. We present the case of a child with long intestinal duplication with ectopic gastric mucosa who presented with just severe anaemia and delaye...

Introduction: The ectopic ciliated cyst is a rare non-odontogenic cyst which occurs as a delayed complication after maxillary sinus radical surgery; this lesion emerges due to the destruction of the sinus mucosa during the surgery and entrapment of the respiratoryepitheliumin the region. This lesion has been observed in very rare cases following genioplasty and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery....
متن کاملEctopic papillary thyroid carcinoma in the mediastinum without any tumoral involvement in the thyroid gland. A Case report
Ectopic thyroid tissue results from abnormal embryologic development and migration of the thyroid gland. True malignant transformation in ectopic thyroid tissue is extremely rare and is always diagnosed after surgical excision of the lesion by pathology examinations. There are well-documented cases of ectopic thyroid cancer while primary tumoral lesion occurs in the orthotopic thyroid, but only...
